Fresh faces making good first impressions

Nearing the quarter way mark in the MLS season, there have been several surprises. The Vancouver Whitecaps are brimming with hope after a fast start to the season. The Montreal Impact made a run to the CONCAFCA Champions League final but have yet to win a game in their first four MLS ties. The Red Bulls were supposed to take a major step back with the losses they sustained this fall but they look the far superior of the two New York teams. Plenty of these surprises can be attributed to some fresh faces in the MLS so here are you best newcomers to the league thus far.

Sebastian Giovinco
Midfielder, Toronto FC
Most of the preseason hype surrounding Toronto was surrounding the addition of American-international Jozy Alitdore. While Altidore has been stellar thus far in the young MLS season, Giovinco has been even better. Through seven games, Giovinco has slotted home four goals, including a couple of spectacular free kicks. The Italian midfielder also tallied three assists in those same seven appearances. Giovinco is one of only four players in MLS averaging at least a goal or an assist per game so far this season. He has been the glue to the Toronto offense, taking a large number of the team’s scoring chances. Now if only the defense could fall in line, this Canadian side could be a menace in the East.

Octavio Rivero
Striker, Vancouver Whitecaps
Through ten games, Rivero has hit the back of the net in half of them. Like Giovinco, he has been the offensive talisman for his team. Vancouver managed only 11 goals and Rivero has scored almost half of them. Without him, this team is likely, in the bottom half of the Western Conference. Instead, they sit tied for first. Rivero also has an assist this season but with his position in the Vancouver lineup, helpers are much harder to come by. Rivero needs to do a little better on converting more of his chances (as does Giovinco) but as long as he is scoring consistently, fans and teammates will be happy with his play.

David Bingham
Goalie, San Jose Earthquakes
I know this is cheating a little because Bingham has played before in the MLS but this is his first shot at being the full time starter. Besides, he only made four career starts in three years before this and actually spent time on loan with the USL club San Antonio Scorpions. This year though, Bingham has started all nine matches for the Earthquakes, posting two shutouts. His 29 saves thus far are tied for most in MLS. He does allow 1.11 goals per contest but he has faced the second most shots this season and has the seventh highest save percentage of any goalie with at least five starts. Bingham still needs to improve but his play this season have kept the Earthquakes in a playoff spot so far.

Ricardo Kaká
Midfielder, Orlando City SC
Heralded as the best player to ever join MLS when he left Milan this summer. The attacking midfielder might have lost a step but he has the best skill set of anyone in the league. In the eight appearances Kaká has made this season in an Orlando kit, he has scored three goals and one assist. He hasn’t made the impact that was fully expected of him but he has still been the most talented offensive player on Orlando. He is the only Orlando player to score multiple goals this season. I expect Kaká will get stronger as the season rolls on and the team builds more chemistry.

Trade bait?

After all the hype and speculation of who was going to be traded where and what team was going to offer the Titans the best deal, nothing really happened. We saw two trades last night, neither of them were blockbusters and the most one team moved was five spots. That being said, there were some more surprising picks last night. Two in particular stand out because it could very well mean that the trade block found a few new players. Muhammad Wilkerson and Zac Stacy both could find themselves on the move in the next few days with their teams adding Leonard Williams and Todd Gurley respectively. It makes you wonder what the best fit would be for these players on another team.

Zac StacyLet’s start with Stacy. He actually already demanded a trade from the Rams. Not exactly surprising when the entire world touts Gurley as the best running back prospect since Adrian Peterson. Stacy hasn’t had a whole lot of opportunities to showcase his skills only receiving 326 carries in 27 games played. He likely isn’t a starting caliber running back quite yet but he is a nice change of pace back. The issue for Stacy is that this is one of the best running back drafts in recent memory. There is a whole lot of depth throughout with Jay Ajayi, Tevin Coleman, Duke Johnson, T.J Yeldon and Ameer Abdullah all still on the board. Once day 3 rolls around and most of those guys are gone, that’s when we could start seeing a market for Stacy open up.

With that said, there are a couple of teams that Stacy would probably fit well on assuming they don’t draft a running back first. Dallas would certainly be an option as the Cowboys head into the season with Darren McFadden as their starter. I think Stacy and McFadden could form a nice blend of speed and power. Stacy’s presence would also limit that amount that McFadden would have to carry the football, which is ideal with his injury history. Stacy would be an upgrade over Lance Dunbar or Joseph Randle and he would receive a massive upgrade along the offensive line. It would also offer him the potential to start one day if McFadden is injured or once McFadden’s two-year deal with Dallas is up.

Another team that could warmly welcome Stacy would be the Miami Dolphins. Miami will likely target one of the runners in the draft but if they aren’t able to pick one they like, Stacy could be a nice consolation. The Dolphins have three running backs under contract but with the frustration surrounding Lamarr Miller and two other players who haven’t shown any real promise, Stacy would compete for the starting job. If nothing else, he should push Miller to perform better and be part of a running back committee. If Day 3 rolls around of the draft and the Fins are still looking for a back, don’t be surprised if we find out Stacy was swapped for a fourth or fifth round pick.

Muhammad_WilkersonNow over to Wilkerson. He has been the Jets best player for the better part of the last two years but he is in a contract dispute with the team and seems a bit disgruntled. That would make this the perfect time to move him for New York, with Williams essentially brought in to take his place. With 24 sacks, 7 forced fumbles and 30 run stuffs in his 61 game career, Wilkerson is one of the best young defensive lineman in the league. He does not rank as highly as J.J. Watt or Ndamukong Suh but he is in that next tier. An easy fit for the 25-year old Wilkerson would be New Orleans, where he would play for the other Ryan brother, Rob. The Saints were one of the worst teams against the run a season ago and with rumors that the team does not plan to keep outside linebacker Junior Galette, he could be a trading piece. Swapping Wilkerson for Galette and a couple of early round picks could be a good deal for the Jets. Galette has registered 22 sacks in the last two seasons and would certainly aid the Jets pass rush.

Another team that could be in the mix for Mo would be Kansas City. The Chiefs ranked 28th in the league last year and allowed 4.7 yards per carry. Wilkerson is a massive run stuffer and pairing him with Dontari Poe would make that front line dominant against the run. The Chiefs would obviously need to give up something in return. Two possible scenarios would be either Tamba Hali and a couple of draft picks or Justin Houston. Hali is much older so the picks would need to be high. However, with Houston, this could be a straight swap. He is currently on the franchise tag and seeking a new deal the Chiefs are not currently able to give him. Sending him to New York in exchange for another top defensive player, who will likely cost less than Houston to keep, would be a smart idea. The Jets could need to throw in a mid-round draft pick to truly make it even but both are elite defensive players.

The NFL is full of surprises and there will plenty more over the next two days. Just keep an eye for some players to be on the move too, in addition to just draft picks.

Brian Mandel’s NFL Mock Draft

by Brian Mandel

It’s that time of the year again.  Tonight we will see all of the drama of the NFL draft.  Here what I think could happen.

Trade
#1 San Diego Chargers (from Tampa Bay)
Marcus Mariota, QB, Oregon
To begin this draft, the Chargers trade Philip Rivers, their 2nd round pick, 3rd round pick and future 1st round pick to Tampa Bay for the first overall pick. This fills a need for a Tampa with a Pro Bowl QB since they really want to contend now and fills the Chargers need of long term security at QB.

#2 Tennessee Titans
Jamies Winston, QB, Florida State
Jamies is the best QB on the board at this point, and even though Tennessee has Mettenberger, Winston would be huge upgrade.  Winston would also usher in a new era for the Titans.

#3 Jacksonville Jaguars
Leonard Williams, DE, USC
In my opinion he is the best defensive prospect in the draft and the Jaguars desperately need game changing pass rusher and defensive upgrades in general.

#4 Oakland Raiders
Amari Cooper, WR, Alabama
Amari Cooper may not have the highest ceiling, but he has the highest floor. After years of failed high ceiling receivers (Heyward-Bay, ect.) it seems like a safe wide receiver pick would be best for Oakland.

#5 Washington Redskins:
Dante Fowler, Jr OLB Florida
Fowler fits with Washington perfectly. They need and edge rusher and he’s the best one in the draft.

#6 New York Jets:
Vic Beasley OLB Clemson

With the two best QBs of the board there is no point for the Jets to reach for one.  Instead they will go for and edge rusher to complete their offseason defensive overhaul.

#7 Chicago Bears:
Danny Shelton NT Washington
The Bears can’t stop the run.  Plugging in Shelton at nose tackle will have an immediate impact on run defense for Chicago.

#8 Atlanta Falcons:
Bud Dupree OLB Kentucky
The Flacons still have not filled in their need of a pass rusher on defense.  Although Dupree is raw, he has the potential to wreak havoc on opposing QBs.

#9 New York Giants:
Brandon Scherff, OL, Iowa
The Giants need to protect Manning and create better holes for running backs. Schreff is a versatile offensive lineman that can plug in at tackle or guard and if moves to guard can be one of the best in the league.

#10 St. Louis Rams:
Andrus Peat, OT, Stanford
The Rams will take the next best OT to give better protection to Foles because there OL still has some holes to fill.

#11 Minnesota Vikings:
Kevin White, WR, West Virginia

They only have one established WR on the team, and it would give Teddy Bridgewater another target.

#12 Cleveland Browns:
Devante Parker, WR, Louisville
With the whole Josh Gordon the TBD QB of Cleveland needs a true number 1.

#13 New Orleans Saints:
Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska

Off field issues aside, Gregory would give immediate help the Saints defense.

#14 Miami Dolphins:
Trae Waynes, CB, Michigan St.
He is the best corner prospect and Miami is need of another CB next to Grimes.

#15 San Francisco 49ers:
Arik Armstead, DT, Oregon
A solid all around DT, and he fits an immediate need.

#16 Houston Texans:
Nelson Agholor WR USC
The Texans need a wide receiver to fill the departure of Andre Johnson and Agholor is the perfect fit.

#17 San Diego Chargers:
Melvin Gordon, RB, Wisconsin
San Diego has no true number 1 RB as of now and Gordon can be that prototypical number 1 RB.

#18 Kansas City:
Malcom Brown, DT, Texas
Defensive tackle is a huge need for the Chiefs and Brown is the next best one.

#19 Cleveland Browns
Eddie Goldman, DT, Florida State
The Browns still have holes to fill in their front five and Goldman is good all-around tackle.

#20 Philadelphia Eagles
Damarious Randal, FS, Arizona State
The Eagles need help in their secondary and Randal is the best free safety on the board.

#21 Cincinnati Bengals
Landon Collins, SS, Alabama
With a solid all around team in every corps the Bengals should take the best player available.

#22 Pittsburgh Steelers
Kevin Johnson, CB, Wake Forest
The Steelers are in need of a shutdown corner and Kevin Johnson has the size and skills to be that.

#23 Detroit
D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida
Detroit has a hole in their O-line, and this guy can help keep Stafford on his back.

#24 Arizona Cardinals
Jake Fisher, OT, Oregon
Arizona can go for an OLB, but they would be reaching for one know.  Instead they will draft a guy that will protect Palmer.

#25 Carolina Panthers
Ereck Flowers, OG, Miami
Flowers is the guy to fill their hole at guard.

#26 Baltimore Ravens
Todd Gurley, RB, Georgia
With Forsett locked up for a while but not getting any younger, Gurley can take it easy with his ACL injury, but then be ready to take Forsett’s place at RB.

#27 Dallas Cowboys
Marcus Peters, CB Washington
Dallas needs all the help they can get on defense and Peters has lockdown corner potential.

#28 Denver Broncos
T.J. Clemmings, OT, Pittsburgh
Denver has a hole at offensive tackle and Clemmings is the man to protect he aging Peyton Manning.

#29 Indianapolis Colts
Cedric Ogbuehi, OT, Texas A&M

He may be raw, but the Colts need all the help they can get with all the shoddy O-lines they have had since Luck has been the starter.

#30 Green Bay
Denzel Perryman, ILB, Miami
This will allow Mathews to move back to his natural position, and Packers will have a thumper in the middle for years to come.

#31 New Orleans
Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Mizzou
New Orleans has no true number 1 WR.  If Beckham can put all of the off field stuff aside, then he is their man.

#32 New England
Laken Tomlinson, OG, Duke

The Patriots will just take the best player available.

Matt Luppino’s NFL Mock Draft

by Matt Luppino

The draft is tonight, and as a Bucs fan (don’t ask), I am excited to see what the first overall pick brings. But what will happen after that pick? Here are my predictions for the first round, including a big trade that has major effects later in the draft.

#1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jameis Winston, Quarterback, Florida State
Simple enough: the Bucs need a franchise quarterback now, and Winston is the most NFL ready quarterback on the board. This pick is just about wrapped up.

#2 Tennessee Titans
Leonard Williams, Defensive End, USC
Some people could see Tennessee taking Mariota, but I think offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhut would prefer more of a pocket passer. With Zach Mettenberger getting his shot, the Titans take the top player in the draft.

#3 Jacksonville Jaguars
Dante Fowler Jr., Pass Rusher, Florida
The Jags will be upset to see Williams off the board, but they can still get an effective pass rusher in Fowler, an explosive athlete off the edge.  Look for him to make an immediate impact.

Trade
#4 Cleveland Browns (From Oakland)
Marcus Mariota, Quarterback, Oregon
With Washington and the Jets upcoming with QB issues of their own, Cleveland pulls the trigger and trades their two first round picks for their chance to try out Mariota, who will compete with Johnny Manziel for the starting role, but has a safer track record for sure. The media circus that will ensue…

#5 Washington Redskins
Randy Gregory, Pass Rusher, Nebraska
Washington needs a pass rusher, and in spite of his marijuana possession a few weeks back, Gregory is the best fit at this spot.

#6 New York Jets
Vic Beasley, Pass Rusher, Clemson
New head coach Todd Bowles, like his predecessor Rex Ryan, loves to blitz. Another freak athlete in Beasley from the outside linebacker position could help free up Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson on the inside, and vice versa.

#7 Chicago Bears
Amari Cooper, Wide Receiver, Alabama
Boy, would Chicago be ecstatic to see Cooper fall to them at 7. He would set in and immediately fill the role of the traded Brandon Marshall, opposite of rising star Alshon Jeffrey. This would be a perfect fit.

#8 Atlanta Falcons
Shane Ray, Defensive End, Missouri
Also recently arrested on marijuana possession, Ray’s stock has dropped a bit. But Atlanta’s hole in the pass rush is too deep to pass on a proven sack artist.

#9 New York Giants
Brandon Sherff, Guard, Iowa
With Scherff, the Giants line gets a lot stronger.  Keep Manning upright with weapons like Odell Bechkam and the returning Victor Cruz, and the Giants could be dangerous on offense.

#10 St. Louis Rams
Kevin White, Wide Receiver, West Virginia
Frankly, ever since the dynamic duo of Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce all those years ago, the Rams have struggled at wide receiver. White gives them the chance to turn their fortunes around for newly acquired Nick Foles, who loves throwing the deep ball.

#11 Minnesota Vikings
Todd Gurley, Running Back, Georgia
Gurley’s stock has been rising quickly now that his surgically repaired knee has been cleared by doctors. He could go to Minnesota amidst rumors of Adrian Peterson being traded away. Gurley is a very similar runner, and could see success as a focal point in a young offense with second year quarterback Teddy Bridgewater.

#12 Oakland Raiders (from Cleveland)
Danny Shelton, Defensive Tackle, Washington
With the two picks acquired from the trade I predicted with Cleveland, Oakland needs to add depth. With the wide receiver class particularly strong this season, I see them turning to the run stuffing Shelton to kick-start a rather weak defense.

#13 New Orleans Saints
DeVante Parker, Wide Receiver, Louisville
After trading away both TE Jimmy Graham and WR Kenny Stills, Drew Brees does not have many weapons around him. Receiver is a must for them this draft, and with many teams looking for receivers between now and their 31st pick from Seattle, the Saints pull the trigger now on Parker.

#14 Miami Dolphins
Marcus Peters, Cornerback, Washington
The first corner comes off the board in Peters at 14. When Tom Brady is in your division, you need a strong secondary, and Miami could desperately use the help.

#15 San Francisco 49ers
Arik Armstead, Defensive Lineman, Oregon
With Justin Smith considering retirement, the Niners are desperate for D-Line help. Whether or not that happens, Armstead will be an asset with his ability to play both inside and outside on the line.

#16 Houston Texans
Dorial Green-Beckham, Wide Receiver, Missouri
With Andre Johnson shipped off to Indy, Houston needs another receiver opposite DeAndre Hopkins. The tall and explosive Green-Beckham would fit nicely here, but the question is, will it be Brian Hoyer or Ryan Mallett throwing him the ball come fall?

#17 San Diego Chargers
Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Wisconsin
How to entice Philip Rivers to stay in San Diego? A rushing attack to keep defenses honest would be a good start, though an offensive line and pass rush are also huge needs for the Chargers. Either way, hard to scoff at Gordon’s resume, coming off one of the best rushing seasons in NCAA history.

#18 Kansas City Chiefs
Trae Waynes, Cornerback, Michigan State
Similar to Miami before, guarding Peyton Manning and potentially Philip Rivers takes some talented corners. But Waynes has big game experience from his Big Ten games at Michigan State, and has the skills to lock down top receivers.

#19 Oakland Raiders (from CLE from BUF)
Landon Collins, Strong Safety, Alabama
Could justify a receiver here as well, but adding Michael Crabtree can delay this pick to later rounds. Instead, with Charles Woodson not getting any younger, taking the top safety on the board will improve this defense mightily and immediately.

#20 Philadelphia Eagles
Jaelen Strong, Wide Receiver, Arizona State
Chip Kelly loves tall, athletic receivers, as well as Pac-12 players. Check and check, and Sam Bradford adds a new toy to throw to.

#21 Cincinatti Bengals
Alvin Dupree, Pass Rusher, Kentucky
His name has been as high as sixth on recent drafts, but should teams look past the marijuana charges on Ray and Gregory, this is where Dupree could end up. Not that Cincy will complain: they need rush help badly, and Dupree is the best available for a while.

#22 Pittsburgh Steelers
Shaq Thompson, Outside Linebacker, Washington
Another team that will need some help at linebacker is Pittsburgh, and the Steelers are getting an athlete. Not only is Thompson a great linebacker, but he also took snaps at running back for the Huskies.

#23 Detroit Lions
Malcom Brown, Defensive Tackle, Detroit
Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley are gone, so with both of last year’s starters gone, this is probably a position where help is needed. Insert a 320-pund All-American. We are done here.

#24 Arizona Cardinals
Andrus Peat, Offensive Tackle, Stanford
If Peat gets past the Rams at 10, he could drop hard through the middle picks where skill positions and defenders are higher priorities. The Cardinals could use a running back, but reaching for Duke Johnson may not be wise here. Peat will be helpful on the line which struggled a bit last year, leading to Carson Palmer’s knee injury.

#25 Carolina Panthers
DJ Humphries, Offensive Tackle, Florida
Speaking of teams with O-line problems, just ask Cam Newton. For his sake, the Panthers need a lineman here.

#26 Baltimore Ravens
Phillip Dorsett, Wide Receiver, Miami
With Torrey Smith gone for San Fran and Steve Smith at 35 the best returning receiver, the deep field threat is needed one more. That is exactly what Dorsett can do for a team with 4.33 speed.

#27 Dallas Cowboys
Eddie Goldman, Defensive Tackle, Florida State
As good as the Cowboy offensive line is, the defensive line cannot say the same. Goldman played a large part in a dominating Seminole defense, so he would be a nice addition for the Cowboys late in the first round.

#28 Denver Broncos
La’el Collins, Offensive Tackle, LSU
Also with some trouble with the law right now, but Collins is the best lineman on the board for the Broncos at 28, and Peyton needs time in the pocket to be his typical surgeon self.

#29 Indianapolis Colts
Cameron Erving, Center, Florida State
Indy is young on offense and is already really good. Defensive line is another issue that needs to be addressed, but here, filling their only true hole at center is also a priority.

#30 Green Bay Packers
Byron Jones, Cornerback, Connecticut
Theme developing: you need corners to stop good passing teams. Green Bay has four games a year against Matt Stafford and Jay Cutler, so Jones, who hugely impressed with his combine performance, is a fit here.

#31 New Orleans Saints (from Seattle)
Eric Kendricks, Middle Linebacker, UCLA
Another big need for the Saints is in the middle of their defense. Enter Kendricks, the top MLB on the board. Not a bad takeaway from the Graham trade.

#32 New England Patriots
Ronald Darby, Cornerback, Florida State
New England won the Super Bowl thanks to their cornerbacks Hero Malcolm Butler may return, but Darrelle Revis and Aqib Talib are gone, so the Pats need to deal with their absences now. Darby fills the need.

Chris McGlynn’s NFL Mock Draft

It is the season of lying in the NFL. Yes, the NFL draft is tomorrow night and the rumors are flying like never before. Brian Mandel and Matt Luppino are back with me to break down who should be going where. We each put ourselves in the position of NFL general managers and came up with a player that we think each team should select. That does not mean that they will tomorrow, but they would be wise to. Also another note is that we each had one trade to execute during the draft, which is not only fun but is probably reasonable. We obviously cannot predict every trade, but we can identify one we think should go down. With all of that said, it’s time to put some teams on the clock.

#1 Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Jameis Winston, Quarterback, Florida State
This team needs a franchise quarterback in the worst way and has for some time. He might be a liability off the field, but Winston has a great football background and should be a solid starter for Tampa from Day 1.

#2 Tennessee Titans
Leonard Williams, Defensive End, USC
What no trade? The Titans also have no business trading for Philip Rivers, as they are much more than just a quarterback away from contending. Instead, they make a safe pick that will help them get after division rival Andrew Luck.

#3 Jacksonville Jaguars
Dante Fowler Jr., Pass Rusher, Florida
He is not a perfect fit but much like the Titans, the Jaguars need to find a way to get after Andrew Luck. With such a deep receiver draft, the Jags can afford to wait until round two to fill that need.

#4 Oakland Raiders
Amari Cooper, Wide Receiver, Alabama
I have a higher grade on Cooper than I do on counterpart Kevin White. Give David Carr a reliable, talented weapon who is pro-ready and will grow as Oakland’s young quarterback does as well.

#5 Washington Redskins
Trae Waynes, Cornerback, Michigan State
The Redskins have plenty of needs and one pick won’t make them a contender in the crazy NFC East. Rather, Waynes gives Washington a good-sized defensive back who will take a lot of the pressure off DeAngelo Hall.

#6 New York Jets
Brandon Scherff, Guard, Iowa
Mariota needs time to develop and wide receiver is deep this year. Willie Colon needs to be replaced at right guard and Scherff can do that right away.

#7 Chicago Bears
Marcus Mariota, Quarterback, Oregon
The Jay Cutler era is nearing an end in Chicago. There is no doubt the Bears want to move on and now they would be able to with a viable option to take over for him.

#8 Atlanta Falcons
Shane Ray, Defensive End, Missouri
Forget the off the field issues, Ray is a talented player with a ton of upside. I think Dan Quinn could get the best out of this kid and he would be a major help to a Falcons team that finished tied for second-worst when it came to sacks last season.

#9 New York Giants
Marcus Peters, Cornerback, Washington
Another guy with off the field issues here but Tom Coughlin is the right coach to handle that. The Giants were awful against the pass last season and with Scherff heading to the other New York club, this makes a lot of sense.

#10 St. Louis Rams
Kevin White, Wide Receiver, West Virginia
The Rams need a big target to go to in the red zone. At 6’3”, White will provide new Rams quarterback Nick Foles a new weapon that should jump-start this Rams offense.

#11 Minnesota Vikings
DeVante Parker, Wide Receiver, Louisville
The Vikings added Mike Wallace this offseason but Parker already has a rapport with quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. If Adrian Peterson returns like he is supposed to, this Vikings offense could be a lot better next season.

TRADE
#12 San Diego Chargers
Danny Shelton, Defensive Tackle, Washington
Here is where my trade comes in. The Browns send both their first round picks and a third rounder to the Chargers in exchange for Philip Rivers. The Browns get their franchise passer and the Chargers get a safety net. This is the fresh start the Chargers are looking for as they head to Los Angeles. Shelton immediately makes the Chargers’ run defense better.

#13 New Orleans Saints
Vic Beasley, Pass Rusher, Clemson
I don’t like Beasley as much as a lot of people do but with his speed he will make an impact. Give Rob Ryan a bullet like Beasley to move around and blitz from random spots on the field.

#14 Miami Dolphins
Bud Dupree, Outside Linebacker, Kentucky
Might not be the most natural position fit as Dupree seems more ready for a 3-4 style defense, but with a ton of athleticism, he can develop. He certainly feels a need at linebacker though.

#15 San Francisco 49ers
Arik Armstead, Defensive Tackle, Oregon
The 49ers lost a good chunk of their defense this offseason to retirement or free agency. Adding Armstead will be the first step in rebuilding it.

#16 Houston Texans
Dorial Beckham-Green, Wide Receiver, LSU
Rumor has it that the Texans are in the market for a receiver after Andre Johnson’s departure. Beckham-Green has a bit of a checkered past but a ton of talent. He and DeAndre Hopkins could be a scary combination.

#17 San Diego Chargers
Todd Gurley, Running Back, Georgia
Ryan Matthews is gone. Most of the other running backs on this team made the injury report at one point last year. The Chargers should get a bonafide franchise rusher to ease the loss of Philip Rivers.

#18 Kansas City Chiefs
Malcom Brown, Defensive Tackle, Texas
Versatile player who can move along the defensive line. Brown will be another piece in Andy Reid’s defense and should help Kansas City’s 28th ranked run defense.

#19 San Diego Chargers
Andrus Peat, Offensive Tackle, Stanford
Peat is a big, strong bully on the offensive line. This move would allow D.J. Fluker to move inside and the Chargers could turn their offensive line into a strength of their team.

#20 Philadelphia Eagles
Landon Collins, Strong Safety, Alabama
The Eagles have a couple of different needs but they a vast improvement over their 28th ranked pass defense from a year ago. Collins will do just that.

#21 Cincinnati Bengals
Eddie Goldman, Defensive Tackle, Florida State
The Bengals ranked last in the NFL a season ago when it came to bringing down the quarterback. Eddie Goldman may not come in and tally a ton of sacks, but he should definitely eat up some blockers and provide a nice punch along the defensive line.

#22 Pittsburgh Steelers
Randy Gregory, Pass Rusher, Nebraska
Concerns about his mental game and an incident involving marijuana dropped Gregory out of the top five. The Steelers are desperate for a pass rusher though with Lamarr Woodley retiring. Gregory should fill that need.

#23 Detroit Lions
Jordan Phillips, Defensive Tackle, Oklahoma
Defensive line is a need with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley gone. Phillips is a massive two-gap tackle who can fit either a 3-4 or 4-3 scheme.

#24 Arizona Cardinals
D.J Humphries, Offensive Tackle, Florida
Humphries is massive and should improve the Cardinals’ ground game immediately. Not to mention that keeping Carson Palmer healthy will be a huge priority.

#25 Carolina Panthers
Ereck Flowers, Offensive Guard, Miami
The Panthers need offensive line help in the worst way. With a lot of receivers still on the board as well, Carolina should wait on adding someone else to their receiving core.

#26 Baltimore Ravens
Jalen Collins, Cornerback, LSU
The Ravens finished 23rd in the league at defending the pass last season. Adding a big, lanky corner like Collins should give the Ravens some immediate help with a chance for him to become a star.

#27 Dallas Cowboys
Melvin Gordon, Running Back, Wisconsin
It is probably only a matter of time before Darren McFadden gets hurt so having Gordon will be big at that point. Either way, Gordon should become an every down back Dallas can rely on.

#28 Denver Broncos
Jaelen Strong, Wide Receiver, Arizona State
Peyton Manning can be great but that is mitigated if he has no one to throw too. With Julius Thomas and Wes Welker gone, the Broncos would be wise to add the rangy and explosive Strong.

#29 Indianapolis Colts
Jake Fisher, Offensive Tackle, Oregon
Indy needs to keep Andrew Luck upright. Not to mention that the running game was not overly strong last season either. Adding Fisher should aid both of those causes right away.

#30 Green Bay Packers
Eric Kendricks, Inside Linebacker, UCLA
A.J. Hawk was cut following the 2014 season, which means the Packers have an opening at middle linebacker. Kendricks should be an upgrade over Hawk, who’s production slipped down the stretch.

#31 New Orleans Saints (From Seattle)
Breshad Perriman, Wide Receiver, UCF
After selecting a pass rusher, the Saints need to bolster their receiving corps. Could fill the same role as Kenny Hill but potentially do it better.

#32 New England Patriots
Byron Jones, Cornerback, Connecticut
Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browner will be wearing new uniforms this year. That means that the Patriots have a glaring need at corner and Jones should step in to ease those losses.
